The Urola Erdia region is located in the centre of Gipuzkoa in the Basque Country, halfway between the three capitals of the Basque provinces (San Sebastian - 50 km, Bilbao - 65 km, Vitoria - 70 km). The Urola river traverses the entire region before it joins the sea at Zumaia. The region is divided into six municipalities: Aizarnazabal, Azkoitia, Azpeitia, Beizama, Errezil and Zestoa. It has about 30,000 inhabitants and Azpeitia is the most important municipality.
The rural towns coexist alongside important municipalities engaged in the manufacturing and services sector. Urola Erdia not only has picturesque and beautiful towns but it also offers a spectacular natural environment. Its historical and monumental heritage and a chance to immerse into the Basque culture and Basque language make this land a highly valued place.
